Sumo is a Japanese national sport, which is around 1500 years old and sumo wrestlers, also called Rikishi, are very honorable men in Japan.
By the way, do you know what a sumo wrestler eats?
They eat exclusively Chankonabe.
This is a Japanese stew (a type of nabemono or one pot dish), which usually contains chicken broth soup with chicken, fish, tofu and vegetables.
Leftover chankonabe can later be used for noodles or rice.
It is very healthy and delicious and sometimes we cook it at home too.
During sumo tournament, the wrestler eats a lot of chicken, because he should always be on two legs like a chicken, not on all fours like a cow or off one’s legs entirely like a fish!
Sumo tournament in Fukuoka starts from 15.11(Sun) and our Japanese Sumo Culture Course starts too!
My favorite wrestlers are grand champion Asashouryu from Mongolia and also Kaiou, who comes from Fukuoka!
Enjoy our national sport Sumo together!
