Internship Report_Oliver-san

Oliver-san completed his internship at Anysense. Here is his internship report!
******************************************************************************
This report will describe my internship at a Japanese company in Fukuoka, Japan. In addition to my language course at Asahi Nihongo, I started working at Anysense at the 9th of May and finished on the 27th of May. The internship was meant to show me the common life of a Japanese, the representative working habits at a Japanese company and to give a rough overview of a middle sized company in general.
Anysense is situated in the central part of Fukuoka within the area of Tenjin. The company was founded in 2007 and is concentrating its efforts on mobile and web development, mostly creating websites and mobile applications.
I worked from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm from Monday to Friday, including a lunch break.

My responsibilities covered several different tasks concerning the development of example Android (mobile phone operating system) applications for later improvement, including the creation of a camera application. Using a given image one should be able to take a picture which is getting combined with the chosen image as an overlay to a new picture, creating the illusion of having both on the same picture.
The second task was to enable the exchange of pictures over Bluetooth (wireless communication) from one mobile phone to another via a custom made application.
Also for Android, a special kind of Live Wallpaper should be created using animations and several different types of user events (actions) to manipulate the appearance.
Every task was very helpful in understanding the development of Android applications and improved my almost non existent knowledge about the platform significantly.

As for my Japanese skills, I regularly had to discuss my work progress and assignments with my superior and was also involved in talking colloquial about non work related topics during the lunch break. Everyone was very eager to get to know me and look at and talk frequently about my work results, which supported my oral skills very much. The atmosphere at work was very comforting and casual which made it easy to fit in as foreigner.

In conclusion the internship was a success in every aspect: I learned a lot about life in Japan, working at a Japanese company and developing for the Android platform.
