Setsubun

Hi, I'm Satomi.
Today's blog is about Setsubun.
In Japan, when the seasons change, it is thought that evil spirits (or demons) appear. An event is held to ward off evil spirits that have hesitation.
This event is held on February 3rd.
Japanese people call this event "Setsubun".
People throw and eat beans.
Eating one more bean than the number of years old you are is thought to make our body stronger too.
We throw the beans to hit the demon, and therefore drive away the evil sprits.
It has the meaning of health and hope for the coming year.
When we throw the beans, we call out “oniwasoto, fukuwauchi".
This means " Demons out, and luck coming".

See you next week!
