Internship Report from Simone San

As a Mikosan I am particularly responsible for cleanliness in the shrine and help during preparations for different meetings and festivenesses. Besides I was sometimes assigned to selling O-Mamori, folding O-Mikuji, participating in tea ceremonies and learning Ikebana. The work in the shrine is interesting, but gives no deeper idea of the religion of the Shintoism. Questions in this regard can be addressed only to priests, because Mikos are primarily shrine aids. Their training is a three year education period to study singing, dancing and Shinto myths among other things. In any case this internship is a cultural and human experience, but extensive work experiences can not be collected. I recommend it as one- or two-month internship. During the practical course I did not have problems. Of course I had to struggle with my Japanese sometimes, but everybody at the shrine was very patient.
