Importing pets to Japan, a difficult task!

Japan is an island country, which means that nothing can come in with out being checked or strictly observed and approved before entering the country. There are several sites, and ports of entry in Japan. However, I will concentrate in Fukuoka for now. I have 2 small puppies, they are from an English origin. They are Yorkshire terriers, and their names are Chingoo (the male dog) and Amie (the female dog). Since I have been in Fukuoka almost 10 months ago, they have been staying abroad with their vet in Bundang, South Korea. We missed them a lot but I know they are in great hands. So you may wonder, why are my dogs in South Korea and me in Japan?
This is because the Japanese laws of quarantine for animals and plants are extremely strict, and since it is an island, diseases and dangerous viruses could enter the island and destroy the nature within the country. So my wife and I decided to import our dogs to Japan immediately, and in a normal situation that would take about 6 months of quarantine for any animal coming in from any continental country such as South Korea. However, one of the puppies had one of its required rabies shots a day earlier than required under Japanese law. So, since we did not notice the problem with in the first 3 months, Chingoo had to stay at the clinic for another 6 more months from the day of its third rabies shot to comply with the current law.
Regardless of all of these obstacles and problems, we have managed to get their permissions and approval forms correctly now, and they will be arriving with in the next 2 months. YEAHHHH! I can`t wait to see them and hug them really tight.
I would like you to know that if you are planning to bring a pet or pets from overseas, to first get the right information and research thoroughly about all the requirements and paperwork needed to import them safely and quickly, or at least as quickly as they will allow you to.
There are several websites that withhold these valuable information, nonetheless my personal recommendation is to get all the information and paperwork directly from your Veterinarian, and have them deal with it in the correct procedure. As any pet owner knows, we just want the best for our pets, because they love us make us all the time, no matter how difficult our day has been. They are always there for you.
