The 25th of December is very famous all over the world as Jesus Christ's birthday. Yesterday, the 8th of April was Buddha's birthday and it is said Flower Festival (Hana-matsuri in Japanese).
The birthday festival is based on a legend colorful flowers and honeydew fell from the sky when Buddha was born.
In Japan, Buddha's birth is also celebrated according to the Buddhist calendar but is not a national holiday. On this day, all temples hold Hana-matsuri. Japanese people pour ama-cha (a beverage prepared from a variety of hydrangea) on small Buddha statues decorated with flowers, as if bathing a newborn baby.
If you go to a temple on that day, maybe you can experience to pour ama-cha.
