Upcoming festival, "Houjouya"!

Hi, this is Wakana, one of the internship students.
I will introduce Japanese culture.

Today, I will introduce the upcoming popular event of next month in Fukuoka.
Every September many people in Fukuoka look forward to this festival .
It is called "Houjouya".

This is one of the three most popular festivals in Fukuoka.
It takes place at Hakozaki shrine in Higashi-ku in the middle of September.

During this festival, we thank the gods for food from the sea and the mountains.
We also pray for prosperity in business and safe driving.
It is said to take place since about a thousand years ago.
The most enjoyable part of this festival is, that more than 700 stalls will stand side by side on the street.
You can enjoy eating food such as takoyaki and yakitori.
There is also a haunted house.

The specialties of this festival are "Ohajiki"and "Biidoro".

Left is"Ohajiki", a colorful marble which is made of soil.
Right is "Biidoro", it is like a bugle which is made of glass.

You should go to the festival and have a good time!

See you later,
Wakana
